Stensgata
A complete renovation of a worn out ‘bedsit’, transformed into a lovely studio apartment with a balcony facing Stensparken in Oslo. And the Chromarty’s first collaboration with the entrepeneurs Klever & Backe. The Studio was to be sold on the open market upon completion. With only 25 square metres at our disposal, it seemed like quite a challenge to accommodate all needs and wants as well as creating the sense of a ‘must have’ space or ‘object of desire’ in itself.
The Chromarty functioned as an AD for the concept, and designed the solutions as well as being responsible for colors and materials. K&B made everything doable with Per Backe at the helm. All elements were custom-made, whilst the wooden oak floors were restored and made darker with pigment/oil.

The 'bedroom' was hidden within the wall of cabinets that also contains a very functional kitchen with all amenities, storage and a double bed - yes even some bookshelves. Walls, ceilings and cabinets all covered the same colour ncs 1502y, but different shines dividing walls, units and ceilings in the big allroom. And just like that, the studio turned into an apartment:) soon to become someone’s one-of-a-kind home, without appearing like ‘shoe-box living.

In the small but still almost grand entrance hall, a small nook was made into a walk-in closet and all surfaces painted in an appropriate OSLO blue.
The door between the hallway and the allroom was removed and the opening expanded all the way up to the ceiling, this to create a more architectural approach to the space.

With Klever & Backe, nothing seems impossible to achieve. Together, we even managed to make a dream bathroom come true. Even nicer than in any of the trending Boutique hotels we have stayed in anyway:) The bathroom was rebuilt from the ground up. Terrazzo tiles, Montreux fittings, Happy D sink, hidden storage behind mirrors and even a strip of marble shelving. The shower space measured 1x1,2 metres. What a luxury to walk into in the morning!
We presented the apartment as fully furnished - the small space still had enough room for 6 people by the table and an overnight guest..
The C is super proud of the finished result, maybe even a bit surprised, and needless to say, the apartment was sold before any public viewings. We may even be a bit jealous of the new owner..
